President's Message: Meet Mitzi Young, Physician Advocate

November, 2016

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

One of the greatest responsibilities we have as a medical society is to partner with you in providing resources for you to successfully manage your practice and consistently deliver the best possible patient care.

That’s why I am excited to announce the addition of our very own physician advocate:
Welcome Mitzi Young!

Mitzi brings the CMA’s Center for Economic Services directly into your office setting to serve as your personal consultant on a wide variety of compliance, contracting, insurance, claims and training issues. She will be available to conduct personalized practice management evaluations on-site at your office, with your staff, for those groups and medical organizations represented by 100% membership.

In counties where Mitzi has been available to provide these services, her consultations regularly result in our members’ recouping thousands of dollars through resolution of claims  and billing issues. Practice management evaluations identify opportunities for increased revenue and step by step protocols to implement efficient policies, procedures and processes through the review of areas such as clinical patient flow, vendor and payor contracts, collection and billing practices and many more.

Mitzi has 25 years of practice management experience and expertise in the health care industry. She has worked in numerous health care settings including county organized health programs, surgery centers and specialty health care practices. Her knowledge and expertise encompass a wide range of practice management areas:

  • Operations
  • Staff Development
  • Medical and Billing Collections
  • Contracting
  • Accreditation
  • Personnel and Business Management
  • FREE Practice Assessment (members only or groups with 100% membership)

She understands the needs of physicians and their staff as well as the challenges that face medical practices, and she is very passionate about advocating on behalf of doctors in the ever-changing healthcare landscape.

Other programs Mitzi has initiated, which have been met with a tremendous positive response and which she will be bringing to SBCMS, include in-person educational seminars, Lunch-n-Learns (live lunchtime webinars hosted by CMA) and an “Ask Mitzi” column in our e-newsletter to address specific practice concerns from members.

Even more exciting, Mitzi is literally only a phone call or email away. She can be reached at 888-236-0267 or myoung@cmanet.org, or at any time by calling the SBCMS office at 909-273-6000.

Thank you in joining me as we welcome Mitzi to SBCMS, and we look forward to your reaching out to her to assist with your practice. She’s eager to work with you!

Sincerely,

Michael A. Sequeira, M.D., F.A.C.E.P.
President, San Bernardino County Medical Society, 2016-17
