CMS wants your input on practice transformation March 12, 2014 General CMS, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services 0 Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is asking physicians to respond to a questionnaire about the resources physicians will need to make the transition to value-based models of care that can better serve their patients. Comments are due April 8. “We understand you’re trying to run a practice and do a lot of other things, and you’re going to need a lot of support,” CMS Administrator Marilyn Tavenner said last week when she announced the request for information during the American Medical Association’s (AMA) National Advocacy Conference in Washington, D.C. “How would you transition? What kind of support would you need? We want your feedback on what is doable.” CMS’s request, a response to calls from organized medicine for the agency to address the special needs of small physician practices, outlines questions related to transformation strategies, resources and opportunities. It also looks to physicians for their insight into challenges and lessons learned from existing efforts to change how care is delivered and paid for. CMS says it plans to use the feedback it receives from physicians in its work going forward, including developing requests for proposals and testing new payment and delivery models that can help physician practices prepare for new value-based payment programs.
