Climate and Health: What Every Health Professional Should Know

Climate change is the greatest public health threat of the 21st century. As informed and trusted individuals, health professionals play a critical role in addressing the health impacts of climate change with patients, communities and public leaders.

Physicians and other health professionals are invited to free one-day trainings hosted by the California Climate and Health Partnership, "Climate and Health: What Every Health Professional Should Know." The events take place on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at Dignity Health Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield, and on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science in Los Angeles.

Attendees will:

  • Learn about key health and health equity impacts from climate change and co-benefit solutions for climate change, health and equity
  • Discuss challenges and opportunities for confronting the climate crisis in the San Joaquin Valley
  • Gain hands-on practice in skills for media engagement and policymaker education on climate and health issues

This trainings are free and open to all health professionals, with options to attend full- or half-day sessions. Breakfast, lunch and follow-up support for action are included at no additional cost.

The California Climate and Health Partnership is collaboration between the American Lung Association in California, Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments, Golden State Medical Association, Physicians for Social Responsibility-L.A and Public Health Institute Center for Climate Change and Health.
