California Medical Association applauds voter approval of Proposition 55 November 9, 2016 General Ballot Measures, Election, Medi-Cal, Political Advocacy, Prop.55 0 The California Medical Association (CMA) today applauded voter approval of Proposition 55, the California Children’s Education and Health Care Protection Act of 2016. This measure will provide much-needed funding for public education and vital health care services. “Prop. 55 presented a rare opportunity to invest in the health and well-being of low-income children and their families,” said CMA President Ruth Haskins, M.D. “California’s doctors are proud to have served as leaders in this effort to help patients stay healthy and thrive.” Prop. 55 will extend current income tax rates for the wealthiest Californians, providing funding that will enable school districts to hire teachers and reduce class sizes, as well as providing up to $2 billion annually for state programs like Medi-Cal. “Voters have sent a clear signal that they’re tired of California chronically underfunding health care,” said CMA CEO Dustin Corcoran. “CMA looks forward to its continued work to ensure Prop. 55 revenue reaches the patient communities most in need of access to health care and improved services.” TWEET THIS NEWS @CMAphysicians proud to have supported #Yeson55 to improve health care/access for CA’s low-income children/families http://cal.md/2fBelAN # # # The California Medical Association represents the state's physicians with more than 43,000 members in all modes of practice and specialties.
