California Immunization Coalition Summit coming in May March 27, 2014 General Public Health, Vaccination, Immunization 0 The 2014 California Immunization Summit will be held on May 4-5 in Sacramento. This annual summit is an opportunity for physicians to learn about community-based programs that have increased vaccination rates, and how to adapt and apply key lessons from successful programs. The summit is presented by the California Immunization Coalition, a public-private partnership dedicated to achieving and maintaining full immunization protection for all Californians to promote health and prevent serious illness. This year's program, “Harnessing the Power of Community,” includes two keynote speakers, Melinda Wharton, M.D., M.P.H., acting director for the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Samuel So, M.D., director of the Stanford based Asian Liver Center. Dr. Wharton will share her perspectives on important vaccine issues such as increasing HPV vaccination and other CDC initiatives. Dr. So will discuss his work in combating hepatitis B disease and engaging students, the business community and health care providers in coordinating efforts to raise awareness and prevention through immunization. Other summit presentations and workshops will focus on vaccine safety, disease surveillance and immunization advocacy efforts in California.
