The California Public Protection & Physician Health Inc. (CPPPH) is offering a series of free informational workshops about the Medical Board of California’s new Physician Health and Wellness Program. The workshops will discuss: how the new program will work, when it will be available to physicians, and what role medical group and medical staff well-being committees will play. CPPPH offers regional workshops on physician well-being

California Public Protection and Physician Health. Inc. (CPPPH) is hosting two fall workshops for hospital medical staffs and groups interested in physician health and well-being. The workshops will be held in Oakland on Saturday, October 7, and in Los Angeles on Saturday, November 4. Physicians’ professional wellness is increasingly recognized as being critically important to the delivery of high-quality health care. Survey shows a correlation between ethnicity, gender and burnout in nation's physicians

The 2017 Medscape Lifestyle Report has found a correlation between ethnicity, gender and burnout among the nation’s physicians. The survey of more than 14,000 physicians from over 30 specialties found an association between ethnicity and burnout. Asian Indian physicians reported the lowest level of burnout at 46 percent, with Chinese physicians reporting the highest level at 56 percent. Fifty-two percent of Caucasian physicians and 51 percent of Hispanic/Latino physicians reported burnout, with black physicians slightly less burned out at 48 percent. Webinar: Preventing physician burnout

The Physician’s Foundation biennial Survey of America’s Physicians has consistently shown the professional morale of physicians as problematic, with a majority of physicians in 2016 describing their feelings about the current state of the medical profession as somewhat or very negative. The California Medical Association (CMA) will host its first webinar of 2017, "Preventing Burnout: Individual and Organizational Intervention,” on Wednesday, January 11, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m., to help physicians recognize and respond to burnout. Physician morale continues to decline, with 80% of physicians feeling overextended

U.S. physicians continue to struggle to maintain professional satisfaction levels as they are forced to adapt to changing delivery and payment models, according to a Physicians Foundation survey of 17,000 U.S. physicians. The 2016 Survey of America’s Physicians: Practice Patterns and Perspectives found that 80 percent of physicians report being overextended or at capacity, with no time to see additional patients. Not surprisingly, 54 percent of physicians surveyed rate their morale as somewhat or very negative, with 49 percent saying they are either often or always feeling burnt out. CPPPH offers two workshops on physician well-being in October

California Public Protection & Physician Health (CPPPH) is hosting workshops next month in both northern and southern California for medical staffs and groups interested in physician well-being. The workshop, "Effective Functioning of Well-Being Committees for Medical Staffs and Medical Groups," will be offered October 15 in Los Angeles and October 22 in Oakland. This workshop is designed for physician health and well-being committee members, medical staff services professionals, medical staff leadership teams and others interested in improving physician well-being on an individual and organizational level. CMA-sponsored bills head to Governor Brown for his signature

The California State Legislature has passed two California Medical Association (CMA)-sponsored bills: AB 2121, a life-saving measure requiring alcohol servers and managers to complete a training course on responsible beverage service; and SB 1177, to establish a Physician Health and Wellness Program for California physicians. Another CMA-sponsored bill, SB 563, was incorporated into SB 1160 to increase transparency and accountability in the workers’ compensation utilization review process.
